Opals, So brilliant!

The October birthstone is the Opal.
Opals, like many gemstones, comes in different colors. The most rare is the black opal, however most people enjoy the fiery display of multicolored opals.

Opals are mined all over the world, most often sourced from Australia.
They are used in all forms of jewelry, and are very popular.
They are a form of silica, basically compressed sand, and their intense fiery display comes from the physical phenomenon of the diffraction of light. As light hits the mineraloid, it is diffracted depending upon the density of the crystal. Since the formation of the crystals is not uniform, light is diffracted differently throughout the stone. This gives Opals their rainbow luminescence.

Michael has some beautiful Opals to choose for your Opal project. Come see Michael today!
